Area of intervention

The latest automatic metro on tyres, Cityval has been designed to meet the growing needs of cities for sustainable mobility solutions. It is characterised by its modularity, energy efficiency and the particular attention paid to passenger comfort, information and safety. Made up of 1 to 6 cars, it has a capacity of 1,000 to 30,000 passengers per hour and per direction. The airport version, called Airval, has been designed to make it easier for passengers to connect with urban lines and the interconnections between the airport’s terminals and service areas.

For SIEMENS Mobility, HAIKU DESIGN has imagined and produced the entire exterior design and interior fittings of the Cityval commercial demonstrator. The vehicle is characterised by large glazed surfaces that enhance the journey, offering passengers a panoramic view of the urban landscape they pass through, which is exceptional for a vehicle of this type. A thick, minimalist frame surrounds the windows, enhancing the feeling of safety on board and making the vehicle easy to read from a long distance.

Twenty years after the opening of line A, equipped with the VAL automatic metro, Siemens Mobility is bringing into service in 2022 the very latest generation of Cityval automatic metro to equip line b of the Rennes metro. This first commercial version of the Cityval is based on the original design of the demonstrator created by HAIKU DESIGN.
